Japanese Puzzle Box

A 4 sun himitsu-bako, or secret box, made in Hakone's yosegi-zaiku tradition, where strips of different woods are glued into a pattern and shaved into a mosaic veneer. The side panels slide in a set order, and the lid only opens on the 10th move, with a little space inside to hide something. 3.15 x 4.72 x 2 inches.

A traditional Hakone craft made the same way for more than a century, with every pattern in natural wood. Beautiful enough to keep on a shelf long after it's solved.
